Why this AOV is PERFECT for your project!

3 mins
Can I specify either an aluminium or PVC base?

Yes. The Roof Single Leaf Vent | Polycarbonate is available with either a Rockwool-insulated aluminium collar (RSL) or a PVC base construction (RSL-R). The RSL offers enhanced thermal performance and A1-rated construction, while the RSL-R provides a cost-effective alternative for a wide range of smoke ventilation applications.

Can the aerodynamic free area be increased?

Yes. A bespoke wind deflector can be specified to increase the aerodynamic free area where required.

Are polycarbonate lids non-fragile?

Yes. Sertus polycarbonate lids are manufactured from virtually unbreakable polycarbonate and are tested in accordance with the ACR(M) Red Book and BS EN 1873. Whilst classified as non-fragile when tested, they are not “man-safe” and should not be deliberately walked on.

Can the opening angle be restricted?

Yes. An opening limiter can be fitted where required. However, restricting the opening below 140° may affect compliance with BS EN 12101-2.

Is a double-skin polycarbonate lid supplied as standard?

Yes. All polycarbonate lids feature a double-skin construction as standard, helping deliver improved thermal performance.

Can the actuator be supplied on either side of the vent?

Yes. The actuator can be specified on either the left- or right-hand side to suit the project requirements.

What height should the roof vent upstand be?

The top of the roof vent upstand should be a minimum of 300mm above the finished roof surface.

Can the Roof Single Leaf Vent be installed on pitched roofs?

Yes. The Roof Single Leaf Vent can be installed on roof pitches of up to 20°.

Can permanent ladders be installed next to the roof vent?

We do not recommend installing permanent ladders adjacent to roof vents, as they may reduce the aerodynamic free area and affect smoke ventilation performance.

Are there any safety considerations during installation?

Where roof vents are installed in areas with regular roof access or foot traffic, appropriate edge protection or fall protection measures should be considered in accordance with the project's safety strategy.

What maintenance does the Roof Single Leaf Vent require?

The Roof Single Leaf Vent is designed to be low maintenance. Routine maintenance typically consists of periodic inspections and cleaning using warm soapy water.

Can the roof vent be serviced from inside the building?

Routine servicing of the smoke control system, including control panels and call points, is typically carried out from within the building. Some maintenance tasks on the roof vent itself may require roof access.

Can the actuator be replaced if required?

Yes. If the actuator requires replacement, it can typically be accessed and replaced from the roof without entering the building.

Is the Roof Single Leaf Vent CE marked?

Yes. Sertus Roof Single Leaf Vents are CE marked in accordance with BS EN 12101-2, the harmonised European standard for natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators.

Is the Roof Single Leaf Vent BRoof (T4) compliant?

Yes. The Roof Single Leaf Vent is classified BRoof (T4) for external fire performance.

Does the Roof Single Leaf Vent require a fire rating?

No. Natural smoke vents are designed to extract smoke and heat from a building and are tested to BS EN 12101-2. Unlike smoke control dampers, they are not intended to provide compartmentation and therefore do not require a fire resistance classification.
